Training Workshops
Our typical GenerationPMTO specialist training program includes 2-3 workshops and coaching seminars, for a total of approximately 10 days. Workshops incorporate best-practice active teaching techniques: e.g., modeling, role play, experiential exercises, video demonstrations, and video-recording of practice followed up with direct feedback. There is abundant opportunity to learn, try new strategies, and integrate skills.
Training participants receive a comprehensive set of materials for GenerationPMTO practitioners and for parents receiving GenerationPMTO services. Materials include manuals for practitioners, handbooks for parents, and other tools to facilitate creative delivery of the intervention. Manuals contain foundational information, experiential exercises of core and supporting GenerationPMTO content and strategies, session outlines, and all other necessary intervention and assessment tools.
Coaching
GenerationPMTO training is supported with regular coaching and consultation that is provided to strengthen existing skills and to shape new skills to mastery. Detailed coaching and feedback may take place in person, by video conferencing, by phone, or in written format. Coaching is structured to provide practitioners with strong support for improving content delivery, therapeutic process, and teaching strategies. Candidates typically receive a minimum of 12 coaching feedbacks (written and individual/group reflective coaching) based on direct observation of their therapy sessions with families. Video recorded sessions are uploaded onto a secure HIPAA-compliant portal to facilitate coaching. Practitioners use the portal to ask questions, receive feedback, and review their sessions.
When candidates demonstrate that they have effectively incorporated coaching feedback into their practice and show competence in their application of GenerationPMTO techniques, they are invited to advance to certification candidacy. GenerationPMTO fidelity raters review four full treatment sessions using the Fidelity of Implementation Rating System (FIMP). Once certified, GenerationPMTO specialists may be eligible for training in infrastructure roles such as coaching, training, and fidelity rating. Ongoing annual recertification requirements include regular coaching and review of one full session. These activities ensure fidelity to the model and promote successful outcomes for families.
